Howdy! Welcome to the Land of Iza Pearl! We are Matt and Melissa the duo that makes all things Iza Pearl Design come to life. We have a humongous passion for creating great artwork that we then make into fabulous products. We hope that our creations will make people really, really, REALLY happy. We find so much joy
in seeing people love what we create, and are so grateful every single day for that opportunity.
Melissa, the trained artist, found her passion in textile and surface design. She
loves working in all media, ranging from paint, feathers, and glue to pen, paper
and computer. Melissa creates all the artwork for our fabrics that makes Iza Pearl
pjs and products so unique, fun, and festive.
Matt, lovingly referred to by our friends as the “one-man sweatshop,” is the builder, sewist, and business mind behind it all. He learned to sew when he took up upholstery as a hobby. One day, Matt, at the request of Melissa, stitched-up a hippo out of some Spoonflower fabric she had designed. That little guy got so much lovin’, that we
decided he needed friends. So, we made an entire herd of these patterned pachyderms that were immediately snatched up by our family and friends. We have since made dozens and dozens upon dozens of these crazy-cute critters that have warmed hearts all over.
Then one day, Melissa took a pajama pant sewing class and used some of her fabric
to make them. Every girls’ weekend, family vacation, or visit, she got tons of compliments on them and tons of requests for a pair. We knew, with Melissa’s
baby-bear level sewing skills, and Matt’s hefty workload both sewing pachyderms
and at his full-time job, we would need help to fulfill those requests and offer a sufficient inventory of sizes.
We began searching for a small, local team to help us fulfill our vision. We looked very hard to find a group that had the same quality as ourselves. In our search however, most importantly, we were looking for a team that was honest and fair, kind and compassionate, and had working conditions that we ourselves would want to work in. We luckily found this terrific team just 15 minutes from our home here in Dallas, and have been so very fortunate to be able to source so much that goes into our pajamas, including our labels, buttons, and trims right here in the DFW metroplex.
Working with these craftsmen has allowed us to offer a wider variety of styles, and
to focus on creating more artwork for our fabrics, developing more products, and
making our one-of-a-kind items like our dreamcatchers, stuffed animals,
and fabric succulents.
Although we don’t stitch every pair of pjs ourselves, we are extremely hands on with our all of our products. Not only does Melissa design the fabrics, she also designs the fit and the styles. We’ve pre-washed 90 yards of fabric right out of our home, and we’ve been known to hand-dye 100 yards of pom-pom trim to get that precise shade of fuchsia.
We can almost always be found in our garage photographing our items for our website, constructing our market booths and photo-shoot backdrops, or making our one-of-a-kind items. To say our neighbors and friends think we’re a bit nuts, is an understatement.
We feel insanely blessed to be able to pursue our passion through our creative endeavors. We hope by doing so, we’ll inspire others to fanciful dreams, whimsical living, and pursuing their personal passions!
